What to expect
Beginning therapy:
- You can contact me in a number of ways; please see the contact pagefor full details. I will then follow up to arrange a free 15-minute telephone or video call for both of us to assess whether Whitmoor Counselling would be a good fit for your needs.
- An initial counselling session involves a more comprehensive assessment, with discussion and contracting around how we will work together.
- A following session or course of sessions can be arranged: I engage in both long-term and short-term work.
- Appointments can be in person, by video call, or using my ‘walk and talk’ service (by arrangement, and weather-dependent!)
What therapy is like:
- Counselling and psychotherapy are talking therapies; you will get most out of it if you wantto engage and are prepared to be honest and reflective.
- As a therapist I am formy clients – committed to working withthem towards greater personal development and wellbeing. In practice, empathy and compassion are offered alongside challenge, to help clients get a clear picture of what is going on in their own life and to consider if and where changes would benefit them.
- Therapy with me is led by the client. Based on your preferred ways of working, a session could involve writing, drawing, psycho-education, visualisation, walking, tracking back through memories… or it may be simply talking and listening.
